About Lukla

A year and a half after losing Isito it was once again time for an addition to our family by getting dog number two. Sherpa is not getting any younger and for the two dogs to really benefit from each others company we could hardly delay the decision for much longer.

We quite liked the lines of Sherpa and were therefore looking to get yet another dog of those same distinctive lines. When we were offered the chance of getting a puppy off Frida, the sister of Sherpa, who lives with our friends Sanne and Bent – Kennel Maitri, we could only hold our breaths and hope for a bitch to arrive for us.
Luck was on our side indeed, little Lukla had in fact made her appearance with the rest of the litter.

We were fortunate enough to get to follow the litter – in particular Lukla, up close and personal when Sanne and Bent needed a dog-sitter during some of their work weekends. We moved right in to the splendour of it all in Nees, more specifically into the lovely home of Sanne and Bent with their wonderful pack of dogs. It proved rather entertaining to look after such a bunch of (pytlinger?) but also a unique opportunity to observe Lukla in her early days of development. We believe she understood at an early stages that we were going to become her new family, and besides from being a wonderful benefit to us personally we are also convinced that it has prepared her for a smoother journey when ”flying the nest”.

Lukla is our first bitch and several people have warned us about being tricked by the charm of such a sweetheart. Only time will tell how ”bad” a state we will get ourselves into… however, things seem to be in order for the time being.

Lukla is still a young dog but already her personality shines through very clearly. She is an incredibly loving and alert dog and she has a great sense of her family. Furthermore she possesses a rare cheerfulness and Sherpa’s ”senior citizen’s” lifestyle will without a doubt never grow boring. Her irresistible charm also becomes apparent when Sherpa allows her to sleep in his beloved bed without the slightest hint of objection and even lets her remove his toys from his mouth without complaining.
Lukla’s bold and distinguished mark complements her charm very well and you cannot help yourselves but loving her to bits. Yes indeed, a princess has entered our home.

Lukla has proven very keen when it comes to training. We apply positive reinforcement when training Lukla and she is very eager to work with the various tasks and exercises which we create for her. Although being a teen causes a slight lack of concentration these days, we deal with this fairly light-heartedly and do not take this too much into account. We are confident her concentration will be back on track in a matter of time.

Susan with Lukla at the ”World Dog Show 2010”

Lukla had her first ”real” dog show debut at the “World Dog Show” in Herning, Denmark, in the summer of 2010. Entering Lukla in the show was a really great experience. She was awarded ”Excellent” and we are absolutely thrilled. She presented herself very well and displayed a fantastic temper and great charisma. Time will tell what the future will bring in regards to dog shows, but as long as Lukla is enjoying the experience we intend to continue showing her.

Lukla 18 month old

Lukla is named after a small but significant village (town – hvor stor?) within the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal. This is where most of the travellers, who explore the Everest region, begin and end their adventure as it is the only part of the country with access from the air. In addition to being an incredibly pretty name we also thought it goes very well with our little dog: She is also small but never the less highly significant.

We look forward to the many great and entertaining years to come in the company of our Lukla.
